Thursday, February 28, 2019, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, ET
Presenter: Douglas G. Goldberg, JD

WHAT WE’LL COVER

With the federal estate tax exemptions at an all-time high, does a family business owner still need an exit strategy? Absolutely! Successfully passing a family business from one generation to the next takes a great deal of thought and planning, and includes asking and answering questions well beyond estate taxes. Questions and issues abound in the areas of pricing and income and capital gain taxes as well as the personal issues involved with successor owners, ongoing management, and the company’s ongoing mission, vision and strategic plan. Add to that the stress of the normal day-to-day financial, sales, and marketing demands of the business, soon to be without its founder, and all of a sudden, we have issues! Family members, key employees, advisors, and vendor relationships all play an integral role in a successful transition.

Learning objectives
  • How to identify the myriad issues involved in transferring a family business;
  • How to counsel the business owner to successfully navigate and prioritize those issues; and
  • How and when to involve other advisors to maximize the benefit of the exit strategy.
