Religious Considerations in Estate Planning - Word on the Street
Thursday, June 20, 2019, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, ET
Presenter: Yaser Ali, JD

WHAT WE’LL COVER

Historically, religious organizations have received the largest share of charitable contributions compared with all other philanthropic causes. While the percentage of individuals identifying as "highly religious" is on the decline, there remains a significant population for whom religion is a core part of their identity. Despite the central role religion plays in many clients' lives, the topic is rarely addressed in the estate planning context where a clients' religious beliefs may actually inform their preferences with respect to the distribution of their wealth and/or end-of-life care decisions. In some cases, ensuring that these religious beliefs and traditions are passed on to the next generation may even be just as important as a client's other estate planning goals.

In this presentation, author of Estate Planning for the Muslim Client and WealthCounsel Member, Yaser Ali, will explore the role of religion in American society and address how to ethically and effectively counsel clients who are seeking to integrate aspects of their faith into their estate plan.
