Description

This intermediate to advanced level course will follow the birth and growth of a real business, owned by a real family. We begin with an individual who started a small business in the mid-1990s with one employee, a laptop and a dream, and who today heads up a $2B operation with 400 employees and offices in 48 states.

Along the way, we will discover how this blended family’s individual personal goals and internal family issues, as well as the ever-changing legal and tax landscape have affected the business and how the overall structure and succession plan for the business, and the family, has adapted and changed in response to increased government regulation, law changes and cultural shifts over 25 years.

Learning objectives:

  1. How to evaluate, integrate and balance multiple planning strategies in the business succession planning context;
  2. How to incorporate personal planning goals with business planning goals; and
  3. Why the team approach to planning is critical in business succession planning.
