Description

Issues of client capacity and alleged incapacity can be fraught with pitfalls and peril. This interactive ethics session will use recorded hypotheticals to discuss how to assess and maximize a client’s capacity while being attuned to protective actions that might be necessary.
After this session, the participants will be able to do the following:

  • Identify and analyze the specific ethical issues that arise when working with people with diminished capacity
  • List and apply strategies to maximize the capacity of clients
  • Develop a structured, evidence-based assessment tool for assessing client’s capacity
  • Explain when protective actions are permitted and appropriate actions need to be taken
