This session will address how marital agreements (i.e., pre- and postnuptial agreements) can be part of a comprehensive legacy planning strategy. Attendees will learn how marital agreements can help their clients achieve their goals—whether their marriage ends in divorce or death—and how to avoid potential planning traps. We will also explore common estate planning mistakes that could be addressed by using marital agreements as part of the plan. In addition, the presenter, who is a divorce litigator, will shed light on the potential unintended consequences of irrevocable trusts when developing plans for married couples.
