Estate planning involves transfers of real property to and from individuals, trusts, entities, and decedents’ estates, whether an estate includes only a personal residence or a vast portfolio of investment properties. This session will review procedures to keep in mind, consequences (both tax and nontax) to watch out for, and traps for the unwary to avoid when planning for real property transfers. Topics to be covered include title, the Garn-St. Germain Act, corporate authorizations, state and local taxes, estate and gift taxes, and fiduciary responsibilities.
