Breakfast Session: Beyond the Fee Schedule: Navigating the Dark Side of the Practice of Law
Date & Time
Thursday, September 24, 2026, 7:15 AM - 8:15 AM
Description

In this breakfast session, we will continue the difficult and honest conversation we started at Symposium 2025 about the very real struggles we face as attorneys. Whether you are new to this conversation or were there in San Antonio, please join us as we discuss the hard parts, dig into the dark days we face, and dive deeper into the practical tools, mindset shifts, and strategies that attorneys need to sustain themselves in one of the most demanding fields in business and law.

Our returning panel of experienced practitioners will discuss the nuanced realities of managing anxiety, depression, chronic stress, and the unique pressures of practicing estate planning law and running a successful business. This work blurs the distinction between one’s personal and professional lives, and this session honors that complexity by addressing both with equal seriousness.

This session will be a rich, actionable exploration of how attorneys can build lives and practices that are genuinely sustainable. Panelists will share deep insights into specific coping frameworks, boundary-setting practices, and mental health strategies tailored to the realities of client relationships, referral networks, and the demands of business ownership.

This is a candid, practitioner-to-practitioner conversation about what it truly takes to stay well while doing demanding, meaningful work. The pressures of this profession are real, the stakes are high, and the path forward requires more than endurance. It requires intention.

Whether you attended Part I or are joining this dialogue for the first time, this session offers the kind of honest, experienced guidance that is rarely found in a professional setting. Come prepared to engage, reflect, and leave with a clearer sense of what a sustainable and fulfilling legal career can look like—on your terms.
